Fact is, over 16 years after almost any games’ release any computer should be able to run it. Your probably going to get the same mid-level experience on any PC unless you have the strongest CPU available that prioritizes quality over quantity (I’m no expert but this is my understanding of how this all works). By extension this leaves most EAW players disappointed, since the game “maxes out” at probably 1/8th of the performance you get in other games. With that said, Empire at War just doesn’t run too “great” systems since it isn’t designed for modern hardware/software. Even my gaming PC (With a ryzen 5 2700x & 5600XT) will crash EAW because it’s just too much going on at once for a single core. MAYBE keep an eye out for mods that add poorly optimized units or units with excessive hardpoints. For that reason I’d imagine most mods aren’t going to add TOO much stress on top of the original game, maybe make the integrated graphics run a little harder because of newer models in things like Thrawns Revenge. The game isn’t graphically intensive, so your only limitation might be popcap mods stressing your cpu too much, but that can be avoided. In this case that’s actually good, since most laptops come with decent (but not great) CPUs. Your CPU is not being used all at once, for example, rather only one core. From what I understand empire at war is fundamentally different from modern games in how it uses your pc resources.
